After the Independence of Indonesia Some of the information in this chapter is an abstract from a book written by Dr Andy A Louhenapessy entitled ‘Penyakit Kusta di Indonesia’, Department of Health R.I. Jakarta 1980.

Soon after the Independence,  the Ministry of Health was established. The first minister was Dr. Bentaran Martaatmodjo (only few months in 1945) then Dr. Darma Setiawan took over till Oct 1946. Dr J. Leimena become the third minister till 1949. During this transition period, the National Leprosy Control Program (NLCP) was put under the Minister of Health stationed in Yogyakarta.

Dr. G.E Rehatta 1946 – 1948 was oppointed as head of the National Leprosy Control Programma stationed in Yogyakarta. The management of leprosy control was continued with treatment at special leprosy clinics. With the ending of the term of Dr. Rehatta as head of the NLCP in 1948, due to the situation at that time, nobody was appointed to lead the NLCP and no reports of the program were made....... for further information please go to Dr Boenyamin period.
