20. Leprosy Control Partnership The Leprosy Mission from Great Britain www.dryaminleprosy.blogspot.com

The Leprosy Mission from Great Britain The Leprosy Mission International (TLMI), Great Britain, commenced her activities in the field of leprosy control in 1969, focusing on hospital based activities especially at the Sitanala Leprosy Hospital of Tangerang, West Java. Initially accent was laid on capacity building of hospital staff, little by little expanding to assisting the National Leprosy Control Programme in various provinces mainly through training, drug supply, transport facilities, fellowships and technical guidance, among others through expatriate experts. Later on activities were taken to provinces like North Sumatra (mainly drug supply), East Timor, Irian Jaya (in both provinces assisting in the implementation of the NLCP) and West Java (supervision of MDT programmes at provincial and district level). As a result of a.o. TLM's contributions to the NLCP, the programme could gradually be taken over by the Indonesian Government enabling TLMI to phase out support to the NLCP, a process which was concluded in 2007.
