General information


A 100-bed hospital, catering for leprosy patients, is subordinated to the Provincial Health Office of East Java Province since 1998. The hospital was erected in 1958. According the director, Dr Sutikto, the hospital is under utilized since several years ago. Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) was recorded to be 35% in 2002 with Length of Stay (LOS) 61 days. The hospital has 4 general doctors, one dermatologist, one orthopaedic surgeon (part time) and one physiotherapist. The hospital can produce prosthesis and footwear for leprosy patients. The hospital did not do surgeries since last two years with the reason that the anaesthetist staff is not available. The admission leprosy patients has been decreasing year by year. Therefore since May 2003, the hospital has developed its function to cater for skin and sexual transmitted diseases and to look after older people. The hospital does not have leprosy village. The hospital cooperates with Damien Foundation for the patients’ aftercare with social problems. The Damien Foundation belongs to church is located 9 km from the hospital.
