Brief history and present situation
The hospital was erected in 1945 on 8 hectares of land. It is located about 21 kms from the district’s capital and about 6 kms from the capital of Gorontalo province (closer to Gorontalo city). The Kabila district owns this hospital. At present there is a total of 51 ex-leprosy patients (29 male and 22 female) within 37 couples with a total of 8 healthy children living here. None of them are on MDT treatment anymore. Total inhabitants are 59. The proportion of ex-leprosy patients is 86%. Since 1990 the hospital have stopped for the admission of new leprosy patients. It was not well recorded about the type of leprosy on the patient cards. Some of them are staying in the wards (not for medical care, but for social indication), some joining in houses. They are not mixed with a healthy people in the compound except with their children, but they are integrated to the normal people surrounding. Most of them are cultivating the land of the hospital for their living in addition to the donation provided by the government viz. the ration package distributed every 3 months. One person gets one package, which is containing of 15 kgs of rice, 1 kg dried salty fish, and 1 kg of milk
Medical services
The in-patient department with 60 beds has not been in function anymore since 1998. There is a clinic that caters for the people affected by leprosy and for people from the general community. There are 2 nurses and 2 doctors to run this daily clinic.
