Wireskat Blora Leprosy colony

Brief history and present situation.
In 1970, four leprosy patients from Kediri Leprosy Hospitalmet a Catholic Priest, Father Ernesto Pervari CM. They asked for jobs because they did not want to be beggars. Father Ernesto went back to Europe to get inheritance from his family. With a part of the inheritance he bought 2 hectares of land in Sendangharjo Village of Blora district. For the first time they built 4 houses for 9 ex-leprosy patients from Kediri Leprosy Hospital. A part of his inheritance was deposited in a bank. The interests of the money then to be used for developing of housing and for living cost of the patients. After some times, the patients came in more and more to the settlement mainly from Nganget and Sumberglagah leprosy hospitals viz from EastJava Province. The land area of the settlement also extended.

Present situation:
There are 9 units of housing and one convention hall with 6 hectares of land provided for leprosy patients. Total inhabitants are 79 consists of 43 ex-leprosy patients and 36 healthy people. Therefore the proportion of ex-leprosy patients is 54%. Father Ernesto has gone back to Europelast year. Wireskat is now under supervision of St. Pius Church of Blora. The are regulations for the admission of patients i.e.:
1. They should be cured patients or RFT certified by the doctor from the HCs.
2. They should be able to work at least 2 hours per day from 07.00 to 09.00 a.m. collecting soil, stones to sell for additional income recourses.
3. They get living cost from the church with the criteria as follows:
- The bachelor patients get Rp. 90,000 plus 20 kg of rice per month.
- Married patients get Rp. 100,000 plus 30 kg of rice per month.
4. Every couple or bachelor gets 2 coconut trees and 10 meter square of land to be cultivated.
