18.1 East Nusa Tenggara province: 'Benlelang' leprosy colony - www.dryaminleprosy.blogspot.com

Benleleang nttt

Address: Benlelang, kec. Alor Barat-Laut,, Alor, NTT

Present situation
Since 1998 the hospital has been closed. There are no more activities here as they have a shortage of budget. During the time of Soeharto administration, the hospital received donation from Darmais Foundation. Type of donations were in ration packages.
The clinic and office of the hospital has been removed at the same time a new church is built at that place. There were no documents found here. According to Mr Ansel (a staff of Benlelang), there are remaining about 3 ex-leprosy patients live in this compound. Several years ago there were about 40 ex-leprosy patients live here. It was recorded that the number of leprosy were to be 30 in 1987. Since 1998 donation from Dharmais has been stopped. Some of the leprosy patients left Benlelang to earn a living and some of them died. At present there are remaining 3 ex-leprosy patients with their family staying in Benlalang settlement. All of them are in old ages.
